What people are saying

Just wanted to share some thanks and thoughts. Fifteen years ago all I heard from my son was “I want to learn to make a knife. We saved some money and purchased a forge. I looked at it and thought what in the world are we going to do with this thing…

Thank God we came to the Carolina Classic fair a few weeks later. As soon as we got to the top of the hill of the yesteryear area we heard the anvil ring. Joel and I settled in and began to talk to Richard Howard. As Joel shared that we had just bought a forge and anvil and that he was planning to learn how to make knives, Richard invited us to join.

He began to show us the different items from the table and explained to Joel that while he couldn’t make knives at the fair grounds, if he came and learned how to do the decorative work he would be able to forge the shape of a knife and there were plenty of men here to teach him how to complete a knife somewhere off the fair grounds.

As Joel grew up his interest and mine often went in opposite directions. The one thing we both enjoyed is standing around a forge and learning something new. I am so thankful for this club and the atmosphere it provides. The fantastic leadership we have had and still have is a blessing.

As I get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving next week, I would like to personally thank Keith, Richard, Marshall, Joe, Ronnie, and all the other members of Triad Blacksmiths who helped me forge a relationship with my son and this group.

Joel has learned to make knives and when I have time I occasionally beat out something that looks useful.
